Kodak PlaySport Zx5 Review

A Review Of The Kodak PlaySport (Zx5) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera

Kodak PlaySport (Zx5)Everybody wants to be able to take video of the extreme things they do when they leave the house. Sometimes this is fine, after all, you can't get into a whole lot of trouble when you're going for a walk. But what if you want to take on something more extreme?

What if there is water involved?

Luckily there are all sorts of video cameras out there that are waterproof and shock absorbent and ready to be banged around while you have your adventure. In this article we will look at the Kodak PlaySport (Zx5) HD Waterproof PocketVideo Camera.

What makes the Kodak PlaySport (Zx5) better than the other video camera

Is this camera truly better than its competition? We decided that we should take a look at it seeing as, as of this article's writing, it is listed on the front page of Amazons Cameras and Electronics section.

The first thing we notice is how proof this video camera actually is. The listing says that it is shockproof. It says that it is dustproof. The listing also says that the camera is waterproof (in up to ten feet of water). That makes it seem like a pretty hardy little camera, and little it is.
It is built to fit into your pocket, so it's built to be taken on adventures. It is also built for editing. You can cut and trim your videos, record voice overs and more, all without the help of any additional editing software or computer equipment. That all seems great, right? But, what do the reviews say?

Kodak PlaySport (Zx5) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera Pros and Cons

Kodak PlaySport Zx 5
Most of the reviews about Kodak PlaySport Zx5 are positive but there are some definite drawbacks as well. For one thing, it doesn't record very good images when you try to use the camera indoors. This means that if you are going to be transitioning from indoor stations to outdoor activities, at least half of that video isn't going to be very much fun to watch unless you film it with a camera that is meant for indoor filming and, really, who wants to carry around two video cameras?

Another drawback is that the battery is internal. That means that once you have used it up, you need to be able to plug it in to something to recharge it. You can't solve your dead battery problem simply by carrying a spare battery. This makes it difficult to take the camera on extended excursions.

The one caveat that we have is with the memory card. Make sure that you get the longest memory card you can find because the last thing you want is to run out of space as you are recording. It might even be worth it to carry an extra compatible card with you just in case you are going on an extended vacation.

The camera is certainly a good one but if you want something that can handle any situation you should look for a unit that is built for more versatility.
