Nikon D3100
Sometimes you want a camera that is a little bit more robust than your average point and shoot digital camera. This is where the SLR cameras come in. These are digital cameras that are built to resemble the manual film cameras that professional photographers used for so long.

Choosing the right SLR digital camera, however, can be a bit of a trial. This is why we decided to take a closer look at the Nikon D3100 and its accompanying lens. At the time of this writing this particular camera is the highest selling SLR camera on Amazon.com.

Nikon D3100 with a video shooting feature

One of the nicest things about this particular camera is not that it comes with a stabilization lens or that it is 14.2 mega pixels. One of the nicest things about this camera is that it comes with a video shooting feature.

The camera includes a full 1080p HD Cinematic Video feature that has automatic focus and sound recording capability. People who are experienced in videography will tell you that often a still camera can give you a much clearer visual image than a regular video camera. This means that this camera is great for both videography and still shooting. That is definitely a plus sign.

Nikon D3100 Features

Another positive feature on this camera is the split second auto focus shooting that it can do. This makes it a great camera for events involving sports or lots of movement. Most digital cameras will promise crisp shooting at sporting events (or events with lots of frenetic activity) and not deliver.

The advanced shutter speed on this camera, however, makes perfect shots a possibility when the camera is used with the right hands. Of course, the drawback of sports shooting is that it can use up memory cards pretty quickly.

Nikon D3100 - camera plus and minus

The biggest drawback to this camera is that it has no internal memory beyond that which it needs to store the software for image shooting. This means that your memory card is an extra purchase and the memory cards you need for this camera (the kind with large amounts of memory) aren't cheap.

Nikon D3100 reviews
The reviews for this product are overwhelmingly positive. Most are in the five star range which is a good sign, especially when you consider that hundreds of reviews have been submitted for this camera. People love the camera because, even when they are amateurs, the camera makes them feel professional.

To get more out of it, however, you'll need to be prepared to buy extra equipment: spare batteries, specific lenses and extra memory cards mean that this camera could end up being a major purchase for your household. At the same time, this is a major purchase that should last for a really long time so maybe the expense is worth it for your family.
